Greek stocks found support at the 750-point mark in the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday, helping restrict heavy losses earlier in the day. The general index of the market fell 0.64 pct to end at 757.98 points, off the day’s lows of 3.25 pct.
The Large Cap index fell 0.11 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 2.24 pct lower. Turnover was an improved 114.6 million euros in volume of 119.1 million shares.
National Bank (5.61 pct), Alpha Bank (2.81 pct) and Ellaktor (2.80 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Piraeus Bank (21.74 pct), PPC (4.37 pct) and Hellenic Petroleum (3.13 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Telecommunications (1.87 pct) and Commerce (1.56 pct) scored big gains, while Chemicals (2.14 pct) and Raw Materials (2.40 pct) suffered losses.
National Bank and Alpha Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 76 to 38, with 125 issues unchanged. Pairis (28.41 pct), Nakas (21.50 pct) and Fieratex (9.09 pct) were top gainers, while Piraeus Bank (21.74 pct), Naftemporiki (19.64 pct) and Eidisiophoniki (19.51 pct) were top losers.
