Hellenic Statistical Authority: Greek trade deficit up 20.6 pct in October

The Greek trade deficit grew 20.6 pct in October as imports rose 13.9 pct and exports increase 8.6 pct in the month, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.

The statistics service, in a report, said that the country’s trade deficit grew 18.4 pct in the 10-month period from January to October. More specifically, the value of imports-arrivals totaled 4.667 billion euros in October, up 13.9 pct from October 2016 (excluding oil products the value of imports grew 10.3 pct while excluding oil products and ships the value of imports rose 14 pct). The value of exports-deliveries totaled 2.492 billion euros in October, up 8.6 pct from the same month last year (excluding oil products the value of exports rose 11.9 pct and excluding oil products and ships exports increased 11.9 pct). The trade deficit totaled 2.175 billion euros in October, up 20.6 pct from October 2016 (excluding oil products the trade deficit grew 8.6 pct and excluding oil products and ships the trade deficit rose 17 pct).

In the January-October period, the value of imports-arrivals totaled 41.899 billion euros, up 15.3 pct from the same period in 2016 (excluding oil products the value of imports rose 9.6 pct and excluding oil products and ships the value of imports rose 6.9 pct). The value of exports-deliveries rose 13 pct to 23.611 billion euros in the 10-month period (excluding oil products exports grew 7.0 pct while excluding oil products and ships exports rose 7.1 pct). The trade deficit totaled 18.288 billion euros in the January-October period, up 18.4 pct from 2016 (excluding oil products the deficit rose 12.4 pct and excluding oil products and ships the trade deficit rose 6.7 pct).
