Greek stocks ended sharply lower in the ASE on Wednesday

Greek stocks ended sharply lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday, hit by a negative climate prevailing in other European markets and a deterioration of the climate in the bond market because of political developments in Italy.

The general index fell 1.59 pct to end at 784.93 points, with the Large Cap index falling 1.63 pct and the Mid Cap index ending 1.16 pct lower. Turnover was a low 47.196 million euros in volume of 27,441,035 shares.

ADMIE (1.85 pct), Athens Water (1.20 pct) and Aegean Airlines (1.15 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Folli Follie (16.47 pct), Piraeus Bank (5.52 pct), National Bank (3.45 pct) and Mytilineos (2.92 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Oil (0.31 pct) and Utilities (0.08 pct) scored gains, while Commerce (15.64 pct), Banks (3.0 pct) and Raw Materials (2.86 pct) suffered losses. National Bank and Eurobank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 71 to 41 with another 28 issues unchanged. Kreka (20 pct), Vioter (16.79 pct) and Sato (16.28 pct) were top gainers, while Varvaresos (20 pct), Forthnet (18.93 pct) and Livanis Publications (17.50 pct) were top losers.
