Στους Ντάρον Ατσέμογλου (ΗΠΑ/Τουρκία), Σάιμον Τζόνσον (Βρετανία/ΗΠΑ) και Τζέιμς Ρόμπινσον (Βρετανία/ΗΠΑ) απονέμεται το φετινό βραβείο Νόμπελ Οικονομίας, «για μελέτες σχετικά με το πώς διαμορφώνονται οι θεσμοί και επηρεάζουν την ευημερία».
Σύμφωνα με τη Βασιλική Σουηδική Ακαδημία Επιστημών που απονέμει το Νόμπελ Οικονομικών Επιστημών, οι φετινοί βραβευθέντες μας βοήθησαν να κατανοήσουμε τις ανισότητες στον πλούτο μεταξύ των χωρών, αναδεικνύοντας τη σημασία των κοινωνικών θεσμών για την ευημερία ενός κράτους.
Οι κοινωνίες με φτωχό κράτος δικαίου και οι θεσμοί που εκμεταλλεύονται τον πληθυσμό δεν δημιουργούν ανάπτυξη ή αλλαγές προς το καλύτερο. Η έρευνα των βραβευθέντων μας βοηθά να καταλάβουμε το γιατί.

Οι διαφορές στους θεσμούς ενισχύουν το χάσμα
Όπως προκύπτει από την έρευνα των τριών οικονομολόγων, το εισοδηματικό χάσμα μεταξύ των πλουσιότερων και των φτωχότερων χωρών είναι επίμονο.
Παρόλο που οι φτωχότερες χώρες αναπτύσσονται, δεν καλύπτουν τη διαφορά με τις πιο πλούσιες χώρες. Σύμφωνα με τους βραβευθέντες, το χάσμα αυτό εξηγείται από τις διαφορές στους θεσμούς μιας κοινωνίας.
